What is Enneagram Coaching?

Many of you who listen to my podcast, Essentially You or The Signature Edge, know I've recently become an Integrative Enneagram Accredited Practitioner. As a coach, I take my role very seriously. This means helping others understand themselves and how to bring their best to work every day. This motivation drives me because if we can rock our careers, we are free to love our lives. Freeing people to live their best life feels like a God-given calling. The difference between success and failure often begins in our thinking, and our thoughts eventually lead to our performance. I've been asked recently to explain why I became an Enneagram practitioner and how this assessment will help my clients.

First, the Enneagram is an ancient model of human personality and behavior based on nine distinct personality types. The framework is based on theories developed from ancient and modern psychological teachings, including Freudian psychology, Jungian psychology, and some Eastern spiritual practices. It is often used as a tool in psychotherapy to help individuals understand themselves and their motivations better. It's also a powerful tool for personal and professional growth, allowing people to understand the motivations, fears, and core beliefs that drive their behavior. At the same time, it helps leaders understand the motivations and needs of others. As a result, more and more leaders are turning to Enneagram coaching to help them develop better relationships and foster team unity.

What is an Enneagram Coach?

An Enneagram coach is trained in the Enneagram system and its applications in the workplace. They help leaders understand the different personalities and needs of the people they work with and their leadership styles. By understanding the Enneagram, leaders can learn how to better communicate and collaborate with their team and make informed decisions in the workplace.

Why Coaching Drives Better Performance?

A coach can help leaders cultivate a deeper understanding of their team members and make better decisions. Coaching helps leaders understand the nuances of each type and how to communicate effectively and work with each type. In addition, Enneagram coaches can help leaders to discover their strengths and weaknesses and learn how to use them to create a more productive and successful workplace environment.

An Enneagram coach is trained to aid leaders in creating better team dynamics by understanding each team member's different motivations, needs, and temperaments, helping leaders create a more harmonious environment and foster better collaboration.

The Nine Enneagram Types

The Enneagram divides people into nine distinct types, each with unique motivations, needs, and temperaments. Here is a brief overview of each type:

  • Type 1: The Reformer. Reformers are responsible, principled, and perfectionists. They strive to create order and structure and are highly critical of themselves and others.

  • Type 2: The Helper. Helpers are generous, caring, and people-pleasers. They are motivated by the desire to be needed and appreciated and are willing to go out of their way to help others.

  • Type 3: The Achiever. Achievers are ambitious, driven, and image-focused. They are motivated by the need to achieve success and recognition and strive to be their best.

  • Type 4: The Individualist. Individualists are sensitive, introspective, and creative. They are motivated by a desire for self-expression and seek to create something unique and special.

  • Type 5: The Investigator. Investigators are analytical, intellectual, and detached. They are motivated by a need for knowledge and understanding and strive to uncover the truth.

  • Type 6: The Loyalist. Loyalists are engaging, loyal, and security-focused. They are motivated by safety and stability and strive to build strong relationships.

  • Type 7: The Enthusiast. Enthusiasts are spontaneous, optimistic, and fun-loving. They are motivated by a desire for pleasure and excitement and seek out new experiences.

  • Type 8: The Challenger. Challengers are powerful, assertive, and confrontational. They are driven by a need for control and are determined to stand up for what they believe in.

  • Type 9: The Peacemaker. Peacemakers are peaceful, laid-back, and accommodating. They are motivated by a need for harmony and strive to create a sense of balance.
