Lent-Inspired Leadership

“The pattern for many leaders is to be exalted in life and forgotten after death. The pattern for all who serve God – famous or obscure, respected or ignored – is that death is the door to glory. People in loving service are rare in any walk of life. Leaders of loving service are still rarer. But in all cases, those who serve will be loved and remembered when those who cling to power, and privileges are forgotten.” – Justin Welby, The Archbishop of Canterbury, in his funeral sermon for Queen Elizabeth II

Over the past few years, the term "Lent-inspired leadership" has become increasingly popular in many businesses and organizations. The idea behind this concept is that leaders can take cues from the season of Lent and apply them to their leadership style and practices. I also add that Jesus does offer us an example of servant leadership it is hard to deny. While the concept of faith-inspired leadership itself is far from new, the application of it to the business world is still relatively new and can be incredibly powerful. This blog post will explore four Lent-inspired leadership lessons that can help change the world.

  • ONE: The first lesson to cover is the power of self-reflection. Lent is a time of reflection on oneself and the decisions that have been made. As a leader, it's important to take the time to reflect on your actions, mistakes, and successes. Doing so can help you understand why you made certain decisions and how you can improve in the future. It can also help you recognize any harmful patterns or behaviors you may be engaging in and help you make changes. Self-reflection can help you become a better leader and lead your team more effectively and efficiently.

  • TWO: The second lesson is to be open to change. The season of Lent is a time of transformation and growth. As a leader, you should be open to change and allow yourself to grow and improve. Don't be afraid to try new things, take risks, and learn from your mistakes. Additionally, it's important to recognize when it's time to make changes and adjust your leadership style. Being open to change can help you become a better leader and can help you make more successful decisions for your team.

  • THREE: The third lesson is to focus on the bigger picture. Lent is a time of reflection and prayer and can help us remember what truly matters. As a leader, taking a step back and looking at the bigger picture is important. Don't get caught up in the details; instead, focus on your team's and organization's long-term goals. Doing so can help you make more effective decisions that will have a lasting impact.

  • FOUR: The last lesson is to prioritize compassion. Lent is a time to show compassion and understanding to our fellow humans. As a leader, it's important to remember to be compassionate and understanding to your team. Don't be afraid to show empathy and kindness to those around you. Doing so can help build trust and respect within your team and help you become a better leader.

These four Lent-inspired leadership lessons can help change the world. By applying these lessons to your leadership style, you can become a more effective leader and help create positive change within your team and organization. So, take the time to reflect on your leadership style and consider how you can use these lessons to become a better leader and make a lasting impact.
