Veteran's Day 2019
As I've matured in years, I've come to appreciate my military service more than ever. I realize as a young 17- year old high school student joining the Navy Reserves was a game-changer. It was the first time I realized the world didn't orbit around me, and the call of country was a significant responsibility.
In college, my military learning continued as I did a branch transfer and became a cadet in the United States Army. Eventually, my service led to my commission as a Reserve Army Armor Officer. I learned to be less "me" focused and more "we" focused. The leadership lessons I learned remain my true north to this day.
However, that's my story, and it's small compared to the service of those others who make up the 18.2 million Veterans in the United States. On Veterans Day, we set aside some time to give thanks and honor those who have worn the uniforms and served in the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Navy, and Marine Corps at home and around the globe.

The core values of the US Army are significant and to this day, add incredible value to my life. Whenever I talk to another Veteran, I'm humbled, as each story is one of commitment and selfless giving. The Army's core values shaped my thinking and approach to leadership. These values continue to have deep meaning in my life today.
LOYALTY - Believing in and devoting yourself to something or someone.
DUTY - Fulfilling your obligations.
RESPECT - Appreciate the best in other people.
SELFLESS SERVICE – Putting others' needs ahead of your own.
HONOR – Living according to your values.
INTEGRITY – Being a person who doesn't intentionally mislead others.
PERSONAL COURAGE – The willingness to act in the face of fear.
I'm incredibly grateful for the Veterans in my life and those who live these values. It's because of the men and women who served that the pursuit of happiness is still alive and well in the United States of America.
