Unstoppable You


Just off the heals of the 53’rd Superbowl of professional American football I started thinking about living unstoppable. Whenever I see greatness in others (and I do a lot) I get goosebumps. To me, it doesn’t matter if they fling the pigskin, tickle the ivories or turn en pointe. I’m deeply moved. 

It’s the rise to greatness and what lies behind the moment that makes a person unstoppable. I don't know about you but, I didn’t learn how to be unstoppable from winning the Superbowl.  I learned from being forced to stop.

Being forced to stop can be a game changer. It’s in this moment when we learn to deal with setbacks, illness, failure and hard times that we become unstoppable. 

Until then, life is just a silly game.

Hints to an Unstoppable Life: 

  1. Learn to Stop. When my mom passed away I kept moving. I tried to press through my loss but, the truth was I needed to learn to stop and mourn. I learned the first step to being unstoppable is to stop.

  2. Be gentle and kind to yourself. A family member was in trouble. I called a friend who offered me some good advice. He said, “Mark, be gentle and kind to yourself.” Instead of blaming myself for things out of my control, I pointed a nugget of grace my way. 

  3. Grow spiritually. Anyway, you look at it life is bigger than we can understand. Having answers to the questions of life and death is important.  Our faith journey is worth discovering.  

  4. Maximize moments. It’s the person with the greatest experiences of love that proves unstoppable. We will never regret time spent with those we love deeply. 

  5. Manage our mindsets. We all need to learn to own our emotions and manage our levels of grit. Positive interventions like gratitude journaling will help us flourish.  

  6. Surround ourselves with great people. Finding others we can trust and know at a deeper level is a key to the unstoppable life. I’m a better person because of my family and friends. 

  7. Be pulled by vision. When times are hard we need to be pulled by a greater vision for our life rather than pushed by pain in our life.  There is a huge difference. 

  8. Move more. For me, being active is an automatic wellbeing improvement tool. When the dingy winter sets in I feel it. I need to be proactive and think to eat, move and sleep. 

  9. Serve more. Zig Ziglar, whom I will always adore said, “you can have everything you want in life if you just help enough other people get what they want in life.” I don’t understand it completely but know that there is deep magic in giving. 

  10. Savor what is right in the world. We live in a negative, self-centered world.  Being intentional about seeing what’s right opens our eyes to the beauty and majesty of awesome things. Savor awesome things.  

In this life, I’m fairly confident not everyone we know will win the Superbowl. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t live a life that is unstoppable. Living unstoppable is a mindset and an approach to life that says we have permission to fully engage every moment. Be unstoppable you.
